Welcome to the TENCompetence
Personal Competence Manager (PCM) web site.
The PCM is a piece of client software developed as part of
the TENCompetence
project (The European Network for Lifelong Competence Development), a 4 year IST funded initiative.
What is it for?
The main purpose of the software is to help people plan and
carry out Lifelong Competence Development activities in professional,
academic and lesiure-based contexts. The PCM makes
this task easier by helping people working individually and in groups and communities
to:
- Update skills within
an existing function, job or sphere of interest
- Study for a new
function or job to improve current job level or develop new interests
- Reflect on current
competences to identify which functions and jobs are within a users
reach
- Explore and define new
learning goals and learning opportunities
- Improve user
proficiency level in a specific competence
- Get support on a
learning problem
The Personal Competence Manager is a client application
(written in Java) which makes use of services provided by TENCompetence
servers, and by other publicly available services. Users download the client
and register as a member of a public network hosted on one of the TENCompetence servers, or start their own network. All
the data they create is stored on the server, e.g.
- The networks they
create and join
- Competence development
programmes they define and choose
- Competence development
activities they create or participate in
- Knowledge resources
which they publish or use (links to the web, or files)
