IMS Learning Design Summit - Heerlen, Netherlands, November 8th 2006

As part of the project goal to provide new interoperable ways of representing and sharing pedagogically complex models of collaborative learning activities, the team at TENCompetence have been making use of the IMS Learning Design specification for the production, storage, search, retrieval and quality rating of learning activities and units of learning.


As well as their R&D activities in the field ofpedagogical and learning activity modeling, the team will select and adapt existing tools and create new ones where necessary with a view to creating components that can be integrated as services within the Integrated TENCompetence System.

With the shift towards the knowledge society, changing working conditions and the continuous evolution of information and communication technologies, peoples' knowledge and skills need continuous development. Technology-enhanced learning is one of the strategic objectives of the EU/IST Work Programme, with the goal of "improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of learning, for individuals and organizations, independent of time, place and pace."

TENCompetence will support individuals, groups and organisations in Europe in lifelong competence development by establishing the most appropriate technical and organisational infrastructure, using opensource standards-based, sustainable and innovative technology
